28 October 2026
Representatives of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia and the Supreme Election Commission (SEC) of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara observed the parliamentary elections held in the Republic of Serbia. CEC members, Dimitri Javakhadze and Giorgi Chikaberidze, along with SEC Chairman Paata Keshelava and Nestan Nakashidze, Head of the SEC Public Relations Department, monitored the  Parliamentary Elections in Belgrade, the capital of the Republic of Serbia.
The delegation members participated in the election observation mission as international observers at the invitation of the Chairperson of the Republic Electoral Commission of Serbia. On election day, they observed the voting process at several polling stations in Belgrade.
As part of the official visit, members of the Georgian delegation held a bilateral meeting with Veljko Perović, a member of the Republic Electoral Commission of Serbia. They familiarised themselves with the activities undertaken to prepare for and conduct the elections. Representatives of the Georgian delegation, alongside representatives from Election Administration bodies of various countries, also participated in a plenary meeting chaired by Marko Janković, Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, with the participation of Maria Jovanović, a member of the Commission.
According to the official data of the Republic Electoral Commission of Serbia, the final number of registered voters for the elections was 6,451,292. A total of 8,299 polling stations were designated for voting across the country. Voters elected 250 members of the National Assembly under a proportional electoral system. The elections were administered by the Republic Electoral Commission, local election commissions, and polling station commissions.
“Voting at the polling stations we visited proceeded in an orderly manner. The observation provided us with a valuable opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the electoral practices of our Serbian colleagues. Such visits play an important role in fostering the exchange of professional expertise and further strengthening cooperation between election management bodies,” said Paata Keshelava, Chairperson of the SEC.
