CEC Holds Working Meeting with Media Representatives

A working meeting with media representatives was held on 18–20 September, organised by the Central Election Commission of Georgia (CEC). At the invitation of CEC Chair Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the event was attended by Paata Keshelava, Chairperson of the Supreme Election Commission of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara (SEC), and member Tsiala Shavadze.

The meeting covered the role and rights of the media in reporting on electoral processes, preparations for the October 3 municipal council by-elections to be held in four municipalities, as well as challenges related to disinformation during the electoral process and mechanisms for responding to it.

Participants were introduced to the CEC’s Disinformation Registry website and its key operating principles. Giorgi Kalandarishvili discussed current challenges related to the spread of disinformation, its potential impact, and the importance of timely, fact-based responses.

The meeting also featured a presentation of the electoral journal Elections 360°. Published in Georgian and English, the journal provides objective and professionally prepared information on electoral issues.

The working meeting was conducted in a question-and-answer and discussion format. The participation of SEC representatives contributed to the exchange of experience and information between the CEC and SEC and to strengthening institutional cooperation.
